245th Anniversary of the Battle of Cowpens

 

hTwo members of our Chapter participated in the 245th Anniversary of the Battle of Cowpens (Jan 17, 1781),  Chapter President, Rob Richmond and past President, Alan Bell.  This event was hosted by the Daniel Morgan Chapter, SCSSAR and the National Park Service.

In Memoriam - Nicholas "Nick" Andreas Addington

Nicholas "Nick" Andreas Addington (December 27, 1994 - December 29, 2025) of Jefferson, SC - Mr. Nicholas “Nick” Andreas Addington, age 31, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Atrium Health – Union. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the White Plains Golf Club Venue, where friends and family will gather to share memories and honor his life. The family will greet friends following the service and other times at their home.

Nick was born on December 27, 1994, in Knoxville, TN. He was the son of Carol Ann Rollings Carroll and the late Michael Scott Addington. A proud graduate of Central High School in 2013, Nick excelled as the first trumpet in the Central High Marching Band. He furthered his education at Lander University, studying computer programming, and began his career in the IT department at the university. His professional career included positions at various companies, including Inside Sales for 3F Manufacturing, Conbraco Industries, Cross Country Adjusting in Pageland, White Plains Golf Course, Advanced Auto Parts in Pageland, and McColl Thomas Contractors for Sandhill Telephone as an engineer. Most recently, he was pursuing his goal of becoming a Behavioral Health Technician to work with special needs children.

Liberty Tree Dedication Honoring John Carter

 

Liberty Tree Dedication Honoring John Carter:  The Kings Mountain Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution conducted a Liberty Tree Dedication in honor of John Carter at the historic Carter Mansion, the oldest frame house in Tennessee. Participants in the ceremony included John Neth III, Father Timothy B. Holder, Stephen B. Kirby, Ben Stonecypher, and Joe Carter.

The David Crockett High School Choral Department delivered a wonderful performance at our Annual Christmas Party. The evening also included the installation of our newly elected chapter officers, along with the presentation of certificates and medals recognizing the service and achievements of several chapter members.

Refn Times-News Nov. 24, 2025: Three Sullivan County Sheriff's Officers were recently recognized by the Sons of the American Revolution Kings Mountain Chapter for outstanding service.

Lt. William S. Ford received the SAR Law Enforcement Commendation Medal for more than 20 years of service, according to a news release. Ford began his career in 2004 as a corrections officer before attending the police academy and later rising through the ranks to lieutenant. He currently serves as a watch commander and SWAT team leader.

Deputies Thomas Buxton and Todd Stanley received the SAR Heroism Award for their actions during a May 13 house fire, according to the release. The deputies were the first to arrive at the burning home and entered the structure to search for a woman trapped by flames. When they couldn’t reach her from their initial entry point, they moved to another area and were able to pull her to safety through a window. The woman was not seriously injured.

The Sons of the American Revolution is a civic organization composed of descendants of American Revolution patriots and is dedicated to promoting patriotism, community service and education, the release stated.

Three Sullivan County deputies were honored by the Kings Mtn. Chapter

 

"Three Sullivan County deputies were honored this week by the Sons of the American Revolution for their outstanding dedication and service to our community. Lt. Sam Ford received the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal in recognition of his commitment, professionalism, and leadership within the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies Thomas Buxton and Todd Stanley were each awarded the Medal for Heroism for their courageous actions and exemplary service. Please join us in congratulating Lt. Ford, Deputy Buxton, and Deputy Stanley. Their dedication keeps our community safe, and we are grateful for their service."

This special meeting will honor First Responders and Policemen with SAR Heroism Awards.  Also, the chapter is sponsoring a History Teacher for the History Teacher of the Year Award
for the State of Tennessee.  He will read his essay before we submit it to TNSSAR.
The chapter is quite active with many events before yearend. Please join us as we plan for the future to honor our patriot ancestors and promote their principles as we approach our nation's 250th Anniversary.
Don't forget to bring your items for the VA to this meeting.

This will be our Thanksgiving meeting with traditional Thanksgiving meal.  Guests are welcome - Meal: $20/person - pay at door (Cash or CC) 

American History Teacher Award Nominee

The Kings Mountain Chapter nominated Jason S. Moore for the History Teacher of the Year for the Tennessee Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (TNSSAR).​

Jason S. Moore is a tenured Social Studies teacher at David Crockett High School in Jonesborough, Tennessee, where he has taught since 2011. A specialist in American military and Revolutionary War history, he earned his Master of Military History degree from Norwich University and a Bachelor of Science from Tennessee Technological University.

Mr. Moore teaches a wide range of high-level courses including Dual Enrollment U.S. History, U.S. Government and Civics, AP Human Geography, and United States Military History. His innovative classroom methods include a full Congressional legislative simulation that allows students to experience the balance of majority rule and minority rights firsthand—an approach praised by school leadership for its rigor and civic impact.

Beyond the classroom, Moore is an active scholar and contributor to historical education statewide. He has presented original research at academic conferences, served as a reviewer for the Tennessee Department of Education, and authored documentary scripts and educational webinars for the Tennessee State Library and Archives. His published work includes a signed book review in The Journal of Military History.

He frequently presents professional development sessions for educators, including recent programs on teaching history with artificial intelligence and using primary sources effectively in modern classrooms.

Mr. Moore is widely recognized for his dedication to historical scholarship, his commitment to engaging students with the legacy of the American Revolution, and his leadership in advancing high-quality American history education across Tennessee.
