Congratulations to the 2025 SAR ROTC & JROTC Medals & Certificates

 

 

 

Congratulations to the 2025 SAR ROTC & JROTC Medals & Certificates from the Kings Mountain Chapter of the SAR.  The followings schools were included:  Daniel Boone High School, David Crockett High School, Dobyns-Bennett High School, ETSU University, Milligan University, UVA Wise University, Science Hill High School, Sullivan East High School, Tennessee High School - Bristol, TN, Unicoi County High School, West Greene High School and West Ridge High School.

The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) presents the ROTC and JROTC Medals to foster the ideals of the “citizen-soldier,” exemplified by the Revolutionary War Minutemen. These awards recognize cadets who demonstrate outstanding leadership, military bearing, and overall excellence. Recipients are selected by the unit’s Commanding Officer, who has full discretion in the process.

SAR, composed of descendants of American Revolution patriots, promotes patriotism, historical awareness, and civic responsibility. It strongly supports the ROTC and JROTC programs as modern reflections of these values. The program honors the legacy of Captain Alden Partridge, founder of the U.S. ROTC and son of a Revolutionary War soldier, who sought to develop qualified military leaders for the young republic.

Units with fewer than 500 cadets may receive one medal per year; larger units may receive one medal per 500 cadets. Each unit is counted separately in multi-unit schools.

• The Silver ROTC Medal is awarded to college or university cadets.
• The Bronze JROTC Medal is awarded to high school cadets.

Raid on Martin's Station in Ewing, VA

 

Each year, the Sons of the American Revolution participates in a wreath-laying ceremony commemorating the Raid on Martin's Station. Rob Richmond, Registrar of TNSSAR and chapter member, participated in this ceremony.

Martin's Station, a fortified outpost on the Wilderness Road, played a pivotal role in the westward expansion of the American frontier. Originally settled by Joseph Martin in 1769, the station was soon abandoned following a Native American attack. Martin returned in 1775 to re-establish the settlement, which quickly became a crucial stop for pioneers moving west.

In 1780, the station was raided and captured by British and Native American forces, along with its inhabitants. This event marked a significant moment in the struggle to settle the western frontier during the Revolutionary War era.

Meeting - May 8, 2025

 

We are pleased to welcome new member Chad Bailey, who joins under Patriot David Hughs. Congratulations to FatherTimothy Holder, who received a Supplemental Certificate for Patriot Cassimore May.

We also presented a Certificate of Appreciation to David Carr in recognition of his outstanding service as Region 1 Director. All Certificates were presented by Ben Stonecypher, VP Tennessee SAR and Chapter President.

A special thanks to Bob Waugh for his excellent presentation on the Francis Hopkinson Flag and the Betsy Ross Flag.

On May 8, 2025 at 6:00PM, Bob Waugh will present a slide show on the Francis Hopkinson Flag and Betsy Ross Flag and last year’s dispute over which one should be flown by SAR.

Bicentennial of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour Visits Hermitage, TN

 

The Color Guard participated in the ceremonies held at Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage which hosted the American Friends of Lafayette’s commemoration of The Farewell Tour in Tennessee! This event was held on Saturday, May 3, 2025.  In the upper left hand corner are Kings Mountain Chapter members Ben Stonecypher (Chapter President &VP Tenn. SAR), Bob Waugh, Rob Richmond (State Registrar Tenn. SAR).
