Revolutionary War History Comes to Life for Clyde Austin 4-H Campers
Kings Mountain Chapter former President John Neth III recently visited the Clyde Austin 4-H Center to speak with campers about the Revolutionary War.
The presentation gave campers the opportunity to learn more about life during the American Revolution through historical stories and hands-on discussion. John helped bring this important period of our nation’s history to life, giving the campers a better understanding of the people, events, and sacrifices that helped shape America.
The Kings Mountain Chapter, Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution, is proud to support educational programs that help young people connect with our nation’s founding history.

Alex Long Reads Washington’s “Prayer for the Country” at Mount Vernon
Kings Mountain Chapter member Alex Long had the honor of reading George Washington’s final “Prayer for the Country” and laying a wreath at Washington’s tomb at Mount Vernon on behalf of the George Washington Teacher Institute.
“I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have the United States in his holy protection, that he would incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field, and finally, that he would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all, to do Justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility and pacific temper of mind, which were the Characteristicks of the Devine Author of our blessed Religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy Nation. Amen”

As part of the 251st Birthday Celebration of US Army a Flag Retirement Ceremony was performed at the Johnson City VFW. Chapter President Rob Richmond participated in the ceremony.

JOHNSON CITY, TN - On June 13, 2026, Bob Waugh, Vice President of the Kings Mtn. Chapter, gave a presentation on the "Battle Between Betsy Ross and Hopkinson Flags" to the John Sevier - Sarah Hawkins Chapter of the DAR.
Grave Dedication Ceremony honoring Patriots Mrs. Elizabeth Alexander Dunkin (1720-1814), John Duncan Sr. (1740-1817) and Mrs. Elinore Sharp Dunkin (1740-1817) in Abingdon, VA
ABINGDON, VA - On June 13, 2026, a Grave Dedication Ceremony honoring Patriots Mrs. Elizabeth Alexander Dunkin (1720-1814), John Duncan Sr. (1740-1817) and Mrs. Elinore Sharp Dunkin (1740-1817). Their final resting place is the cemetery at the Green Spring Church Cemetery in Abingdon, VA. A marker for Compatriot Guy Thomas McConnell (1934-2022) was also dedicated.
The event was hosted by the General William Campbell Chapter of Abingdon, VA and the Kings Mountain Chapter of Johnson City, TN.
