Unaccompanied Veterans Funeral Ceremony

 

Members of the Kings Mountain Chapter attended this solemn ceremony, and Dr. John Wakefield, Chapter and TNSSAR Chaplin, delivered a eulogy to honor the Unaccompanied Veteran.  Members attending were Stephen Kirby, Dr. John Wakefield, Chapter and TNSSAR Chaplin, and Ben Stonecypher, Chapter President and VP TNSSAR.

12th Annual "Ringing of The Bells" in Jonesborough, TN

 

The State of Franklin Chapter of the DAR commemorating the 238th anniversary of America's most important document, the Constitution.  The Kings Mountain, Watagua Chapter of the SAR along with the Overmountain Victory Trail Association participated as the Color Guard in this event.

The Gathering at Sycamore Shoals 2025

 

245th Anniversary of The Gathering at Sycamore Shoals - The Gathering at Sycamore Shoals is a SAR National Event celebrating the gathering of the Overmountain Men muster to begin their march across the Blue Ridge to meet and defeat Major Patrick Ferguson and his Tory army at the Battle of Kings Mountain. Thomas Jefferson called this battle the "Turning point of the Revolution".

This event included guest speaker Randell Jones - Celebrated Author, Historian and Speaker.

Grave Marking Honoring Patriot Brothers at Green Hill Cemetery - Samuel and Isaac Tipton, sons of Col. John Tipton

 

Samuel and Isaac Tipton, sons of Col. John Tipton. 

Samuel Tipton (1752-1833) Virginia Shenandoah Regiment. He came with his father, Col. John Tipton, in 1783 to Watauga Country, and owned land in Carter County.  He became a large landowner and operated an early iron works.  He owned the land where Elizabethton now stands, up and down the Watauga and Doe Rivers for seven miles.  In 1796, Tipton founded the town of Elizabethton, Tennessee.  The first court held in Carter County was in his house.  He was a member of the Shenandoah Baptist Church, Shenandoah County, Virginia and brought his letter from that church, dated September 6, 1783 and presented it to the Sinking Creek Baptist Church on his arrival in Watauga County.  His church letter was accepted andd he became a prominent member.  From his service in the Revolutionary War, his great coat, pierced by several bullets during the war in Virginia, was long preserved by the family.  He served in the Tennessee General Assmbly from 1801-1805.

Isaac Tipton (1763-1827) was a soldier in the Revolutionary War probably serving in the 8th Virginia Regiment (Shenandoah Country).  He was known to be present at Yorktown for the surrender of Cornwallis.  He owned extensive, productive farmland around Elizabethton.

Tipton-Haynes Liberty Tree Ceremony

The SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) and DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), in partnership with the National Society of the SAR, are planting 250 Liberty trees across the United States by July 4, 2026, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. These modern Liberty Trees serve as living monuments to the original Liberty Tree in Boston, a symbol of colonial defiance and a gathering place for Patriots protesting British rule, with the hope of inspiring future generations to remember and uphold the principles of liberty.

This tree is dedicated to Col. John Tipton.  This is one of our chapters Liberty Trees we plan to plant and dedicate in the area.
