Meeting - Presidents Day Presentation - Feb 13, 2025 @ 6:00PM

 

Susan Kirby, wife of SAR member Stephen Kirby, and a DAR Member of the John Sevier - Sarah Hawkins Chapter will present a program on Presidential Graves. Susan and Steve Kirby have visited each grave from George Washington to George Bush. Through vacation pictures she will take us on a quick trip around the country to see the Presidents graves, their homes, some of their libraries and maybe an interesting fact or two.

"The Great Valley Road" Presentation by Rob Richmond

 

Kings Mountain Chapter member, Rob Richmond, gave a presentation to The State of Franklin DAR Chapter in Jonesborough, TN about "The Great Valley Road". Which is the present day Rt #1, and Interstate 81 running through Virginia. He also talked about the other Colonial roads running from north to south. The sign being displayed was on a busy intersection and was hit by a car. It was been repaired and re-welded. The sign will be put in a more secure location. The road mentioned actually ran through the town of Jonesborough, TN.

Virginia’s First Gold Star Families Marker to be dedicated. Guest speakers will be Lizzie Mann and Barbara Smith, Co-Chairs of the Abingdon Garden Club Gold Star Memorial Committee. Kings Mountain Chapter of the SAR participated in the ceremony to honor our Veterans and Gold Star Families.

Sullivan County Veterans Park to open with ceremony on Monday

 

The ceremony, hosted by the Battle of Blountville Civil War Military Park Association, will take place at 4 p.m. at the Heritage Tourism Information Center, also known as the "Old Sheriff's Home," at 1575 State Route 394 in Blountville.  One of the monuments to be dedicated was donated by the Kings Mountain Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution listing all of the Patriots of the Revolution from Sullivan County Tennessee.
